A Fairy-Tale City of Canals, Chocolate, and Timeless Charm
If you're visiting Belgium, a day trip to Bruges from Brussels is a must. This charming medieval city, is just a short train ride away, making it the perfect destination for a one-day getaway. From cobblestone streets to picturesque canals, Bruges offers a dreamlike escape that feels like stepping back in time.
In this travel blog, I’ll take you through my day trip to Bruges, sharing tips on how to get there, must-see spots, delicious food, and Instagrammable spots that will make your visit unforgettable.
Getting There: Train from Brussels to Bruges
The easiest way to reach Bruges from Brussels is by train. I boarded a train from Brussels Central Station and, within about an hour, I arrived at Bruges Train Station. The trains are frequent, comfortable, and affordable, making it a convenient choice for travelers.
Once you arrive at the station, it’s a short 15-20 minute walk into the heart of Bruges.
SNCB is the official site to purchase the train tickets, you can even download the app and buy from there, super-convenient!
TIP: Consider the weekend ticket option, as it is 50% less expensive

Dijver Canal
Provincial Court
Basilica of Holy Blood
Markt Square
Spiegelrei Canal
Timescope
Rosary Quay
Beer Wall
The Old Chocolate House
Christmas Market
Here is the map shows you all the above mentioned places and the distance

I began my day in the heart of Bruges at the Markt Square, the bustling city center surrounded by beautiful buildings and lively cafés. This is where the famous BelFry Tower stands tall, visible from almost every corner of the city. I couldn't help but admire its magnificent presence as I made my way towards it.
From Markt Square, I wandered over to Provincial Court, an architectural gem with its bold red bricks. This building stands out with its striking color and beautiful design, making it one of the most photographed places in Bruges. I couldn’t resist snapping a few shots of this incredible piece of history.
Next, I headed to the Basilica of Holy Blood, a holy and serene spot in Bruges. The basilica’s architecture and the sacred relic it houses are awe-inspiring. Don’t miss the chance to climb the narrow staircase to the upper level, where the atmosphere is peaceful and reflective. It was one of those places that truly gave me a sense of connection to the history of the city.
Afternoon: Canal Views and Hidden Gems
After soaking in some culture, I ventured toward the Dijver Canal for a peaceful afternoon break.
I also made sure to walk along the Spiegelrei Canal, a quiet and charming stretch of water that offers a more peaceful side of Bruges. It’s a short walk from the city center but feels like a hidden escape. It was the perfect spot for some Instagram-worthy pictures!
Next to it is Timescope, an interactive experience that allowed me to look back in time and witness how the city used to look centuries ago.
Evening: Unique Experiences and Belgian Delights
One of the most unique spots I discovered was the Beer Wall. This quirky spot doesn’t typically make it to most tourist guides, but it was such a fun discovery! The wall is adorned with hundreds of beer cans, and there’s a vintage scooter in front, creating the perfect backdrop for photos. The spot even has a bar where you can enjoy the famous Belgian beers. I had a blast taking some fun photos and sipping on a refreshing local brew.
And what better way to end the day than with some indulgence? I visited The Old Chocolate House, a cozy café where I was able to create my own mug of hot chocolate by choosing from a variety of flavors. It was the perfect treat to warm me up after a day of exploring!
A Little Bonus for Bollywood Fans
As a Bollywood fan, I couldn't help but feel excited knowing that some famous Bollywood movies like PK were filmed right here in Bruges. It’s always fun to see familiar places on screen, so I made sure to visit a few of the iconic Bollywood filming spots around the city.
Food & Drinks
Since I went for a day trip, I tried some of the restaurants and the local sweets/snacks.
Garlic n Greens - Indian Veg Restaurant
Belgian Chocolate: Bruges is famous for its rich, high-quality chocolates, with shops like Chocolaterie Dumon offering delicious handmade pralines and truffles
Last but not the least and must visit when in Bruges, because its not just hot chocolate but its an experience
The Old Chocolate House - Nestled in the heart of Bruges, The Old Chocolate House offers more than just a delicious cup of hot chocolate—it’s a full sensory experience. Stepping into this cozy, charming café feels like entering a chocolate lover’s dream.
Waited in queue for about half an hour but it was all worth it. They serve hot milk mugs and the chocolate flavor you chose from the interesting menu. You can then whisk away your very own steaming cup of hot chocolate.

Getting Around
Walkable City, most of the tourist attractions are in and around the city centre. Even walk from train station to centre is only 15 minutes and you can already appreciate the architecture during this walk.
